About the Moment: Taos Pueblo is one of the oldest continuously occupied settlements in North America. Ansel Adams recognized the beauty of the architecture found here as far back as the early 1940s. Adams took a photograph of what I believe was this location, but in the passing years, more crosses are here now. I wanted to isolate the crosses against the darker sky so I used a long lens and shifted the lens up to keep the crosses from converging.
I did not stop the lens down far for the photo – only about f/11, to give a shallow depth of field. This helps separate the front cross and wall from the distant crosses in the background.
Time of Year: Early October.
Filters, Effects, Digital Manipulations: A polarizing filter was used to reduce glare and saturate the tone of the sky against the lighter crosses. No digital manipulations were used to produce this photograph.
