About the Moment: This photograph was taken one one of the hottest days in May on the Oregon coast. The temperature here is normally in the 60s, while the day I took this photo, it was near 90°F! It felt more like I was hiking around Death Valley.

I did not stop the lens down far for the photo – only about f/16, to give a shallow depth of field. This helps separate the blades of grass from the distant sand in the background. It also makes a smoother transition from the wind-blown grass blades to the out of focus sand behind.

Time of Year: Late May.

Filters, Effects, Digital Manipulations: A polarizing filter was used to reduce glare and saturate the tone of the grass blades against the lighter sand. No digital manipulations were used to produce this photograph.
